WPT Nonwovens Corporation Chooses A.Celli Nonwovens for its US Investment

The important US company WPT specialized in the production and sale of nonwoven products for a wide range of markets (consumer, filtration, industrial, medical), has allocated a 6-million dollar investment for a state-of-the-art production plant.

The installation of the line is earmarked for the first quarter of 2018 and the A.Celli supply, that in addition to the “Stream” Master Roll winding system also includes a Tandem Rewinder and a 6-Unit Spooling System, will be installed in the former Nestaway building, the company’s new facilities in Beaver Dam, Kentucky.

RSG Automation Technics is Honored as Growth Champion

For a long time now, RSG Automation Technics, based in Bietigheim-Bissingen near Stuttgart, has established itself internationally as a world-leader for special facilities in the field of fully or semi-automated processing of narrow band textiles. This Success was impressively proven.

The recognized and renown business journal “FOCUS Business” determined the top 500 from a database of 3.6 million German companies, which were able to establish the highest increase in sales in the years 2013 to 2016.

With an increase in sales of 30%, RSG is on first place among German textile machine manufacturers.

Among all German machine and facility manufacturers RSG is on an outstanding 15th place, and is on place 378 Germany-wide. For this RSG was now awarded to be “growth champion 2018” by FOCUS Business.

The automation solutions of RSG allow fully automated processing and packaging of products, such as lifting and lashing straps, loops, seat and safety belts, but also hook-and-loop materials, medical textiles, and filter materials.

Great Success from Turkish Engineers: Invisible Military Camouflage

The invisible fabric, developed by Turkish engineers and not caught by radar and thermal cameras, is also being tried as military camouflage. This technology is now available in only three countries worldwide including Turkey, and is planned to be exported to NATO countries under the approval and consent of the Ministry of National Defense.

The ‘multispectral cloaking network’ found by two scientists at Hacettepe Technopolis was developed at Sun Textile R & D Center. The invisible fabric tested at the Turkish Armed Forces began to be produced in Torbalı Mill after passing the tests successfully.

This product, which is the fruit of 100% domestic engineering, has only been developed by the US and Israel until now. So Turkey became the third country.

Doesn’t get caught to thermal cameras by dispersing the body heat in a controlled manner

The fabric, which can disperse the heat generated by human, tank or ammunition without causing color contrast, provides protection against thermal cameras while also started being used to hide the command center and ammunitions.

In his statement on the subject, Sabri Unluturk, Chairman of Sun Holding, pointed out that the camouflage produced from this fabric is currently in the test phase and added:

‘These garments are designed to keep our troops hidden from night vision binoculars at night operations. They’re on trial now. Military units are also testing. The body releases heat in a controlled manner and does not appear in thermal cameras. With the fabrics we have developed, we have entered NATO’s approved supplier list. In this context, we receive orders from many NATO countries. We will also start exporting with the approval and permission of our Ministry of National Defense.’

From steel vests to armored vehicle seats

Continuing to his words, Unluturk told that the camouflage fabric will also be used in an armored personnel carrier devoloping by a Turkish defense industry company for Saudi Arabia: ‘In our R & D lab, we are currently working on developing new products for many different kinds of military uses. These include vests with shock absorbing capability to be worn into steel vests, preventive seats and floors for armored personnel carriers etc.’

Capacity to cover 1 million square meters

Sabri Unluturk, noted that the products they are currently developing could also be evaluated for civilian use in the future and continued his words as follows:

‘Many developments are first launched in the military field. There is an intensive work on the defense industry. The state is also making significant efforts for the nationalization of the defense industry, transferring resources. It’s a very good investment. Unmanned aerial vehicles, domestic tanks, armored vehicles and many other products are now producing in Turkey. We are also ‘pulling out all the stops’ in the field of textiles. I believe that Turkey will advance much more in this field and develop products that can compete globe. We are talking about a field with a very high export potential and there are very few companies in the field of defense textiles in the world. We also have an important price advantage. By doing a separate investment for this business, we have completed a facility in Torbalı OIZ (Organized Industrial Zone) that meets NATO’s safety standards. During this year’s production, we gave TAF a multispectral cloaking network covering the area of several hundred thousand square meters. In the coming period we will reach a cloaking capacity of 1 million square meters per year.’

ANDRITZ to Supply a Complete Needlepunch Line for Geotextiles to Manifattura Fontana

ANDRITZ has received an order from Manifattura Fontana, based in Valstagna, Italy, and part of the Belgian technical textile company Sioen Industries, to supply a neXline needlepunch eXcelle line for the production of geotextiles. Start-up of the line is scheduled for October 2018.

The scope of supply includes all of the machines from opening and blending to an automatic packaging system. The line incorporates cutting-edge ANDRITZ technologies and equipment, such as:

  • a TCF-X high-capacity chute feed capable of processing long staple fibers
  • an eXcelle card with 3.5 m working width
  • the state-of-the-art ProDyn and Isolayer systems for weight evenness
  • high-speed needlelooms with the innovative Zeta drafters to fine-tune tensile strength parameters and boost the production capacity for lightweight fabrics.

For the first time in Italy, the line will feature air-through bonding capabilities in combination with calendering. It is targeted to become the most productive line in Europe.

50 Years of Experience in the Nonwoven Sector

Manifattura Fontana joined Sioen Industries, a publicly listed Belgian company specialized in technical textile solutions, in 2016. It has been manufacturing nonwoven geotextiles from synthetic fibers for nearly 50 years and is developing new solutions and improved products for separation, filtration, protection, drainage, and reinforcement. Manifattura Fontana is a leading company in the global geotextile markets and provides its customers with added-value geotextiles for many applications, such as the construction of roads, railways, reservoirs, dams, and tunnels, as well as for earthworks, foundations, erosion control, drainage, waste disposal, or containment.

Evteks’ Fabric on NASA Radar

Evteks, which operates on high-tech textile products in Denizli, has produced 100 % cotton fabric that is flame resistant and protects against radiation. If an agreement can be reached with NASA, the fabric that will be used in astronauts and pilots’ underwear has cardinal significance for transferring the properties such as flame resistant and radiation-proof in synthetic fibers to 100 % cotton fabrics.

Having a 20% higher absorption capacity than synthetic products, the protection of the fabric against radiation containing electromagnetic contaminants makes the fabric considerable important especially for babies and children’s textiles. Likewise, occupational groups that are likely to be exposed to radiation are potentially inclusive.

İsa Dal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Evteks, who also serves as a member of the board of directors of the Denizli Exporters’ Association, explained that the fabrics, which have functionalities such as antimicrobial, flame resistant, quick drying and fly-repellent and have increasingly used in the world, contain synthetic fibers. In addition, Dal added that though these fabrics brought advantages, they were not natural by expressing that their goals were to develop both natural and functional fabric and that they achieved this. Saying that they tested the products in the laboratories of Pamukkale University. Explaining that these products were a result of 6 years of work, he stated that they made patent applications after the results came out, as they wanted.

“We believe that this product is suitable for pilots and astronauts because of the antibacterial feature that rapidly removes the sweat and the humidity exposed to radiation especially from the body. We have started negotiating with companies that make provision for NASA. If we can come to an agreement, the fabric produced in Denizli will be able to be used as underwear by NASA astronauts. We think that our completely natural fabric will be preferred in terms of comfort because the present underwear is synthetic. We will also offer a natural alternative to the current underwear of Pilots with a feature of late-combustion. After all, no fabric can be as healthy and comfortable as cotton.”

EcoWipes Invests in Voith-Trützschler’s WLS Technology

EcoWipes, a very young (est.2009) and innovative company, that has become a leading manufacturer and converter of private label products for the hydro-entangled nonwoven segment, has now already ordered its third nonwovens production line.

EcoWipes has a strong focus on innovation and sustainability and intensively monitors local and global market trends. In view of the rising consumer interest in biodegradable materials, EcoWipes opt for partners Trützschler Nonwovens and Voith to supply the new production line. The progressive and sustainable WLS (wet-laid spunlacing) concept developed by the two companies for manufacturing wet-laid hydroentangled nonwovens is a perfect fit for the EcoWipes product range. It is ideally suited for producing flushable wipes but also recyclable and biodegradable products. These materials meet consumer preferences for greater sustainability at the end of the product cycle. The sale of this fifth WLS facility is testimony to the successful collaboration between Trützschler Nonwovens and Voith as established technology leaders in the wet-laid hydroentangled nonwoven segment.

The new production line at EcoWipes is a flexible wet-dry nonwoven facility. Voith is supplying the HydroFormer, one of the main components of the new line. The HydroFormer concept builds on Voith’s long experience in the paper and pulp industry. With HydroFormer technology the suspension is highly diluted, so nonwovens can be produced entirely from cellulose, a renewable and cost-effective raw material.

Trützschler Nonwovens is not just responsible for the hydroentangling, drying and reeling up, but will also supply its latest high-speed card. This flexible configuration enables EcoWipes to produce a broad product range of wet-laid/spunlaced or carded/spunlaced nonwovens.

Drylock Technologies Acquired Two Leading Producers, Capricho and Mardam

Drylock Technologies, headquartered in Zele Belgium, has agreed to simultaneously acquire two competing Brazilian personal care companies, Mardam and Capricho. Both Mardam and Capricho companies have their headquarters and operations in the São Paulo region of Brazil – the largest metropolitan consumer market of Latin America.

The management teams of both Mardam and Capricho will jointly manage and expand the combined business under the Drylock name, and where Drylock will be the 100% shareholder of the new Brazilian companies.

Brazil is the world’s 4th largest baby care market with annualized baby diaper and pant sales of 1.7 billion EUR. The Brazilian adult care market is currently 450 million EUR. Drylock Brazil will have combined annualized sales of 100 million EUR and will represent 7% market share in the baby segment and 8% market share in the adult care segment.

Both Mardam and Capricho have demonstrated sustained growth in the Brazilian retail market primarily driven behind their own company brands, as well as private label initiatives within the South East of Brazil. Operationally both Mardam and Capricho have well invested production sites that have been managed to world class standards whilst both running as family owned companies. Drylock will continue this tradition of both Mardam and Capricho being family owned companies – but will bring a new innovation and category expansion agenda to the Brazilian market and the brands and customers of Drylock Brazil.

The Air- Through Bonding Technology for Hygiene Industry

‘Smart’ T-shirt was produced to Measure Heart Rhythm

As a result of five years of R&D works carried out at Kahramanmaras Sütçü Imam University, a t-shirt that senses rhythm of the heart by means of the conductive yarns in the texture of the fabric and transmits it to smartphones via Bluetooth connection was produced.

In order to produce a smart T-shirt, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suat Çetiner from the Department of Textile Engineering of the Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University was at the head of R&D works jointly performed by the Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering departments. As a result of five years of R&D works, a T-shirt that allows smart textiles to make electrocardiography (ECG) imaging was developed.

The t-shirt, which was developed by producing wearable, flexible, innocuous fabric sensors instead of metal sensors, removes the need to go to the hospital.  It also removes electrodes or probes attached to the body in the course of ECG at the hospital. Of course, we are talking about a garment that can be worn not only by the patients with cardiac arrhythmia but also by everyone.

The operation of the system is as follows: Thanks to the conductive yarns in the texture of the fabric, the electrical signals of the heart are detected and transmitted to the electronic module without any need for a cable. This module also sends ‘heartbeat map’ to smartphones via Bluetooth connection in order to process collected information.

In his statement on the topic, Suat Çetiner said that the smart T-shirt received the third prize in Turkey in the Basic Industries’ category in the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition organized by TUBITAK. Çetiner also added that the T-shirt had a high commercialization potential and invited you to support ‘angel investors’.
